Bridging the literacy and economic gap one step at a time.
In line with OST’s mission to create a society that is beneficial to the individual and one where the individual can contribute positively to the development of his/her community, OST launched its adult education in June 2011 to increase the literacy rate in Lagos and Ogun state.
The adult education provides a unique opportunity for adults that have missed out on formal education to have access to basic literacy classes, which will include reading, writing, arithmetic, general studies and science.
Till date the adult classes have reached over 5000 indigenes in Lagos state in the following local government areas: Ikoyi/Obalende, Oshodi/Isolo, Onigbongbo, Victoria island/Iru and Kosofe. In 2013, through training adult instructors from the 57 local government, we reached over 500,000 adult learners, who were taught using OST developed instructional and educational resources.
In Ogun state through the training of state adult instructors, we have reached over 10,000 adult learners, who are taught literacy using synthetic phonics and resources donated by OST in their classrooms. The adult literacy centre in Olapeleke, Ogun state has reached over 500 residents, who have now gained functional and literacy skills.
